2020 Ford Explorer

For 2020, Ford decided to take one of the most popular SUVs on the market and take it to the next level. Upgraded towing ability, a new rear-wheel-drive powertrain, and powerful engine options are just the beginning of the Explorer’s rebirth. A complete redesign from tip to tail on the exterior and a lavish new interior elevate this popular SUV into a whole new league of convenient capability, technology, and power.

The Perfect Ride For…

The modern adventurer. The 2020 Ford Explorer is aptly named. With its go-anywhere capability, fit-in-anywhere style, and stay-connected features, this SUV is prepared to take on the world with you. Since it seats up to seven passengers, no one gets left behind, and with up to 87.8 cubic feet of cargo space, no one needs to pack lightly. Opt for the powerful ST trim and enjoy high-end performance from the best that Ford has to offer.

Drive and Handling

Ford now offers three engine options for the 2020 Ford Explorer. The first is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost® four-cylinder engine that is paired with a 10-speed automotive with selectShift® capability. Power is sent to the rear wheels, and intelligent four-wheel drive is available. For those craving more performance, the next option is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost® V6 and standard Intelligent four-wheel drive. This powerful engine is standard in the all-new Ford Explorer ST. Finally, the third option should please anyone looking to reduce their carbon footprint. The 3.3-liter V6 is a naturally aspirated powertrain with hybrid technology and standard rear-wheel drive with available intelligent four-wheel drive.

The new rear-wheel drive platform and available intelligent four-wheel drive give the 2020 Ford Explorer improved handling and towing. Thanks to the available all-new Terrain Management System, drivers can choose up to seven selectable drive modes including normal, trail, deep snow/sand, slippery, sport, tow/haul, and eco mode. This system allows you to dial in the Explorer to respond to any conditions with confidence.

Innovative Capability

When you’re looking for a daily driver, you’re on the hunt for a vehicle that can do a little bit of everything. The problem is that sometimes the vehicles that are ok at everything aren’t really good at anything. Enter the Explorer. The capability of this full-size SUV means you’ll never be left wanting more. In addition to the Terrain Management System, the Explorer also features Sidewind Stabilization that really comes in handy while driving through the mountains, during storms, or when passing a large truck. When pulling a trailer, the Trailer Sway Control makes it easy to tow up to 5600 pounds, when properly equipped. The system can adjust braking and engine power to give greater stability and control when you need it most.

Advanced Technology

Stay safe and stay connected in the 2020 Ford Explorer. With Ford Co-Pilot360™, you can protect your most precious cargo on the road. BLIS®, the Blind Spot Information System warns you when a vehicle is in your blind spot. The Lane-Keeping System makes sure you never stray from your lane. Automatic Emergency Braking can detect potential hazards and intervene by applying the brakes before you have time to react. Ford SYNC® 3 features an available 10.1-inch touchscreen that allows you to navigate the seamless interface. With Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, you can connect to your smartphone without taking your eyes off the road, for features like playlists, contacts, and more.

Alternative Options

If you want something with the same sporty capability in the form of a pickup truck, take a look at the Ford Ranger. This iconic model has returned and brings with it some of the most impressive on- and off-road capability in the segment. Maybe you need something a little smaller. The Ford Edge features seating for up to 5 and is teeming with the latest technology.
