2019 Chevrolet Cruze

Cruzing Right Into Your Driveway

Have you been eyeing the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The Cruze draws a lot of attention thanks to its efficient yet surprising design. On the outside, its styling is sharp and adventurous, while the interior sports an inspired design that includes premium materials and fresh technology features. Is this the best Cruze we’ve seen yet? All signs point to yes.

Powertrains and Performance

You may not expect heavyweight performance from the light and nimble Chevrolet Cruze, but boy oh boy does it pack a punch. The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is a front-wheel-drive car powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine rated at 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, which is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. A 1.6-liter turbo-diesel option is also available with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Cruze boasts impressive fuel economy, meaning you can enjoy your commutes just a little bit more knowing that you’ll spend more time at your destination instead of filling up at the pump. The sedan gets an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The hatchback gets 28 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway (37 for the Premier trim).*

The standard turbocharged engine provides stellar performance in every way imaginable. It’s a refined mill with little in the way of extraneous noise and vibration, ensuring drives are comfortable and quiet. Drivers will also appreciate the engine’s strong torque that comes early in the rev range.

Features and Trims

The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car available as a hatchback or sedan with room for five. It is available in LS, LT, Diesel, and Premier trim levels with a starting price of $17,995 for the sedan and $19,620 for the hatchback.**

Standard equipment highlights on all Cruze LS models include 15-inch steel wheels, air-conditioning, Bluetooth®, a four-speaker audio system, and OnStar® with 4G LTE connectivity and WiFi hotspot. LS models also come with a rearview camera and Chevrolet’s infotainment system with a 7-inch central touchscreen. Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ are also standard.

Naturally, LT models offer even more goodies, such as 16-inch aluminum wheels, LED running lights, cruise control, steering-wheel-mounted phone and audio controls, a rear center armrest, and an updated six-speaker audio system. LT drivers seeking even more comfort can satisfy their needs with the optional Convenience package, which adds keyless ignition and entry, heated front seats, and an eight-way power driver seat.

The Cruze Premier gets those features as standard plus 17-inch wheels, an upgraded rear suspension, illuminated vanity mirrors, a heated steering wheel, LED-accented taillamps, 8-way power driver seat, and keyless entry. Premier models (as well as LT models) are eligible for an RS Appearance package that adds a number of sporty and performance-inspired features (18-inch wheels, fog lights, rear spoiler, sport body kit) and the Driver Confidence Package which includes safety tech features like Rear Park Assist, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is one good-looking car, whether you’re looking at the sedan or the hatchback. But don’t think for a minute that its aggressive styling is just for show. Its design was optimized for aerodynamics and it takes advantage of wind-tunnel testing done for the Volt. It inherits a chiseled face and a dual-grille front end.

Detail-wise, the Cruze benefits from brightwork and significantly pronounced character lines down each handsomely sculpted flank. Cruze’s LED headlamps and taillamps provide that ultra-modern sharpness.

Inside, the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze carries an upscale ambiance with a dual cockpit look and fine details sprinkled throughout. The 2019 Cruze’s interior is noticeably stylish and comfortable compared to its rivals. Despite its more premium appearance and construction, the Cruze’s controls are easy to decipher and operate. That attribute can be directly credited to the standard 7-inch infotainment system. That means even the least expensive 2019 Cruze is outfitted with a high-tech interface that boasts vivid graphics and an intuitive menu.

Standard safety features on every 2019 Chevrolet Cruze model include stability control, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, and 10 airbags. Also, standard is OnStar®, which includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, and stolen-vehicle assistance. Additional safety features are available in premium safety packages.

Bottom Line

The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is stable, lean, and sporty. It couples excellent performance with upscale cabin appointments that are inspired by Chevrolet’s larger vehicles, like the Malibu. If you’re in search of small, well-rounded sedan or hatchback with a lot to offer inside and out, the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is a must-drive.
